I totally get that having both green and Okoro is a little redundant, but why would we mind having two guys that are 6’5/6’6 who are young, good defenders, can shoot the three, and have room to grow? They can play either the SG or back up Brandon at SF.
Especially considering they’d both be in charlotte on great contracts that are easily traded. Any playoff team on earth would want an athletic 3andD wing.
I just view having Okoro as a good young asset on a reasonable contract. We’ve had a dearth of talent and no real 3andD wings since like…Courtney Lee and raja bell?? Seriously. I say go for it, we need talent and defense so badly.
Locked said today that we could offer Okaro 7.8 million and stay under the tax In hopes to for a sign and trade It looks like the management wants to fill the last roster spot
Completely agree. If Okoro can be signed for a good contract, you absolutely do it! Have Okoro and Green battle it out for starting SG & 8th man slots. LaMelo, Green, Miller, Miles, Mark; Mann, Grant, Okoro, Micic, Richards is a really, really nice full rotation. With average injury luck, we’d definitely end up playing in the post season.
I don’t believe Okoro would sign for that little. I think it would have to be some kind of trade to clear a little more room. Not sure who would fit the bill for Cleveland. Would love to ship out Cody Martin and Micic if Okoro is coming back. I’d even include a pick of some sort, 2nd rounder or two.
Edit: I was hoping that miles bridges would sign and trade to Cleveland and Okoro was going to be part of the cap clearing package to make the financial part work for Cleveland.
You can’t help but like Tidjane Salaun. Seems like a genuinely nice kid who wants to work hard and his heart is in the right place. Same with KJ Simpson. Drafted two very hard workers who seem to have a lot of work ethic. The new regime seems to have a type, which I’d call “very coachable, hard workers”.
I’m still not sold on Salaun the player, but I’m sold on the idea of Tidjane Salaun. And I understand the pick and the reasoning. After all, if a drafted player doesn’t work out, I’d rather be wrong for the right reasons. If that makes sense.
If we’re wanting another SF to backup Brandon, I wouldn’t mind signing Theo Pinson (yeah I’m a Carolina guy, I’m self aware). Pinson is 28 and has played in the league, plays hard on defense, has size, and can grab boards.
Would be an ideal NBA minimum contract guy who probably won’t play much, but has the experience to be able to know his place and how to contribute. He’s a good guy and would be a good locker room guy. High effort and seems to fit the mold of a Coach Lee kind of player.
Spent last year in the G League and shot 40.8% from three on 5.1 attempts per game. 82% FT. He’s 6’7.
16pts/6rb/7.7ast per game in the g league. The improved three point shooting is eye popping. It’s like if leaky black improved his three point stroke.
It’s still early, but as of now without anymore roster moves I’m guessing that Salaun will be in Charlotte to start the season. I’d rather him get a lot of run in the g league, but I think there’s merit to him starting the season in charlotte to be around coach Lee and the team.
Maybe Salaun will get a few minutes here and there, but if this is the case, I’d imagine he’ll get sent down to the g league after spending some time with the team to be a part of practices and the exposure to the nba.
I think we’ll be surprised with TS’s first season, with the way we’ll play with an uptempo fast break type of game it’ll suit TS. Hopefully Lamelo will be fully fit to run the offence and hit him with outlet pass in the open floor to show off his athleticism.
