2024 Hornets Offseason Thread

I get it, just feels weird coming from another basketball player.

They’re allowed to get excited about cool stuff too. It’s crazy to be in the league with some of these future hall of famers. Also, I don’t think winning 100k or pulling the most sought after card would ever not be exciting.

I’m not saying don’t get cards or don’t get excited.

I’m just saying I would never do that on camera for another fellow basketball player. I can’t imagine Jordan, Kobe or anyone like that being stoked to get another player’s card on camera. And I’m all about dudes living a full life and not getting caught up in dumb masculine stuff. This just feels weird. Obviously not a big deal.

If I was a Mavs person though, I would taunt dude every time with that info.

I’ve been calling for this all freaking off season!

Please God, let this happen.

For what though? We shouldn’t be trying to give the guy away.

He’s been trying to give Vasa away for a pair of sweat bands since we traded for him. Not sure it’s representing to most honest assessment of his value.

Micic is the only true pg2 we have. At least the most experienced. Until Lamelo displays he can play a full season, I’m not ready to go without a true reliable backup. Micic played well in the Olympics and would be a good fit with Denver I think. I would require a good return before I let him go.

Okay you asked for unhinged wild @ss speculation and I’ve got plenty of that:

-Three team trade that lands us Issac from Cleveland - BAM - 2 guard rotation fixed for years to come!

-Any first round draft picks for 25 or 26 - more flexibility and options for the FO. Get the Nuggets to go out and find the picks for us.

-For the sake of young player development and tanking. This one hurts and is not fun but it could be necessary if Melo is not healthy.

There are options.

No one is giving anything worthwhile for a 30 year old backup PG. He’s better value to play for the hornets at this point. Let Vasa cook, and if he does truly cook then maybe we can get something worthwhile at the deadline. Edit: and he just might with melo’s injury history. So I think he’s worth keeping because I don’t trust melo’s health.

Optimal scenario: If he plays as well as I personally think he can, his cheap contract, great passing, and vet savvy play will be a commodity at the trade deadline. And then maybe we can steal a pick.

But it doesn’t make sense to give him away now.

They might give up a first if they want to keep Jokic happy, there window for winning the championship hasn’t got much longer to go so throwing a first at Vasa might be a small price to pay.

Why would we want this guy?

I mean, given that they choose to let both Bruce brown and KCP walk says that they’re more than happy with how things are and they believe the answer is on the roster. They could’ve definitely kept KCP.

I don’t believe they let guys like that walk just to hand over a 1st round pick for a 30 year PG who has played one year in the league.

Can I pay you to get on board w a Micic trade? Anyway he let’s not forget what the FO got for Gordon. People were even more skeptical a year ago.

“He began collegiate career at Florida, where he played from 2018-22. Johnson was a member of the All-SEC First Team in his sophomore season after averaging 14.0 points and 7.1 rebounds. Then, in 2020, Johnson made national headlines after collapsing on the court and falling into a coma. He made a remarkable recovery over the next two years before returning to basketball in 2022/23 as a member of Kansas State. He had a terrific season, averaging 17.4 points and 6.8 rebounds and was rewarded with an NBA contract for his efforts.

He continued his impressive play into the G League last season where the 6’6″ forward made 40.4% of his three-point attempts

Signing Johnson would bring the Hornets to 18 players on their offseason roster out of a maximum 21.

Okay I am nervous about his health scare. If he is really 6-6 then I like him even better. We do have a two way open.

Oh yeah, I remember his name now. He was part of that Kansas state team that made that great run to the Elite 8 a couple years ago. He caught the alleyoop when their pg pretended to argue with the coach during the game then threw a backdoor pass to beat Michigan State in overtime.

Seeing this is why I feel bad for Bronny. Having a near death experience on the court, you don’t just need the physical recovery, you need the mental/emotional recovery to deal with it.

Ideally, he needed to be in a no pressure situation as part of a squad, continue to recover and grow as a person and player. Trying to squeeze him into the league as fast as possible could actually serve to stunt any growth he could’ve made, on and off the court. But I still wish him well.

I’m 100% on board with roster churn at the bottom of the roster. Sure, the idea of developing guys on the margin into a true player is very nice and romantic, but they’re there for a reason. If you can see from daily practice that they don’t have it, bring in the next guy.

No need to keep guys like Bouknight, Kai, Thor, Leaky, Bailey, etc if they don’t show playability or buy in. Nobody ever heard of Lu Dort, or Isaiah Joe, or Aaron Wiggins, but OKC keeps being able to find these lesser name guys that fit their program. And I’m actually enjoying their C team being our unofficial minor league team. Still would’ve like to have kept Poku, that errant pass to the referee must’ve done him in.

I still don’t understand why we didn’t keep Poku, he showed plays and defense that i thought Lee might have found interesting and worth persevering with.

I was just thinking about this today and agree 100%. There must be something we don’t know about the situation

I had no idea that he collapsed and went into a coma. What a story, I’m glad he’s back to basketball.

He’ll fit right in, this franchise could be just now waking up from prolonged comatose state.
