Hey Planet, welcome to 2026 and the last year we’ll be doing this experiment with HP.com. I have talked with Ziggy and our hosting partners as well as our mods. At the conclusion of this season, I’ll be shutting down the site. I do hope that some of you decide to keep things rolling in a modern way with Discord servers of your own or the like. I still think I have one spun up from the first year we stood this thing up that I might spit out a few invites. But there are undoubtedly more modern ways, and certainly free ways, to do this today that make sense in a collaborative and fun way that make far better sense.
Thanks for all those that kept this rolling for all the years and hope we have a good remaining 48 games so this goes out with a bang. Special thanks to @QC_Thundercats and @GeraldWallaceMVP for their moderation contributions.
And who knows, maybe HP.com gets to see some post season action and the lights stay on for a play-in game or two this final year - that would be a cool send off.
I’ve been lurking here forever and am sorry to see HP go, but its understandable. I’d be open to starting a Discord channel. I’m running two others for wargames I’ve set up, so it wouldn’t be a big leap for me. But if any others wish to instead - feel free. Can we start a discord startup thread here?
Sad to see it go. Been a good run a reminder when the Internet was fun and actually connected people.
I may just use this as the jumping off point to hornets fandom especially if the leagues can’t solve this rsn issue. However Kon is probably going to keep me in.
Without me looking up, explain discord to an old fella
Happy 2026! So sad to hear this! I will never forget stumbling upon Bobcatsplanet in 2008 and finally finding people that watched the games and knew the team.
What a run it’s been! Again, I appreciate all the effort it’s taken to keep this thing running and operating. I always knew my hefty HP membership dues were going to a good cause. I also appreciate the good basketball discussion here, as well as the people who make HP what it is.
would be great to continue something into a platform such as discord. I’d like to keep up with you all somehow. So down the line, when something good happens to the Hornets, I want to be able to celebrate with the Hornets Planet OG’s. We deserve to celebrate.
Thanks for the memories everyone. Cheers to us and the rest of the season.
Likewise, first joined around the same time back in the Bobcats days, and have only really dipped in and out over the years. Always appreciated the conversation and reading the insight offered by those far better versed with the game of basketball than I.
Will be missed but hopefully HP can end on a high, with some post-season basketball.
Even though I have only been here 1 year, you guys have been awesome and very welcome. Sometimes im glad josh green got traded because now I get to be a Hornets fan!
It’s a bummer but we totally get it. I’ll try to follow you guys wherever you may go.
I hope we can all find a good way to really organize a discord group or whatnot somewhere, so we can keep this together, for when the championship happens when we are 80-90 years old.
would it also be possible just creating a Reddit group? Do people do that? I’m old
There is a Hornets Reddit group. Just try r/CharlotteHornets. It seems active enough and not a bad place to go for info including game threads. Reddit is so big and wide open though that It seems very impersonal there. Like Hornets Planet has been; Discord tends to feel more immersive for a tighter knit community.
Thanks for all the years here and to all those who have helped establish and be a part of this place and prior ones for HornCats ball. It’s been really appreciated.
Oh I know there is a Hornets group on Reddit. I use it, I just didn’t know if it was possible to have something a smaller Hornets planner sub Reddit on there as well.
Sad to see this iteration of the planet coming to an end but I appreciate that our community will continue. I will have to figure out discord as well. Thanks to all who have kept it going over the years and those who are seeing that it continues.
