What the hell is so bad about the Charlotte Hornets that no one wants to coach here? I thought it was MJ but he’s no longer in charge.
Rod Boone speaks to the dysfunction of things, but that’s probably a cause of mid-season transition of leadership, I hope anyways.
I get being diligent but this almost feels like you posted a job, didn’t get the candidates you were looking for, so you’re reposting the job while going out headhunting for someone you want.
It feels like we don’t want to pay a coach again, which I get but if we keep shopping at Dollar Tree hoping for bargains, we’re going to be the definition of insanity around here.
Reputation. Like all things in life, people need to see the changes and success from it before they buy there is change. This is a 20 year history of dysfunction.
Often times, a first time head coach coming off the bench somewhere has exactly one shot. If they don’t prove themselves, they likely never get another chance as a head coach. If they do it’s after another decade. Look at the hornets history, they are basically a coaches graveyard. Nobody wants to risk their career to try to turn around the Charlotte basketball
Adrian Griffin. Adrian Griffin had the second best record in the NBA when he was fired. I just don’t see where Doc Rivers has been all that much of an improvement on the Bucks defense to where any team now concerned with that aspect of Griffins coaching should be concerned with hiring him. Griffin is a young head coach who was not given enough time to iron out the wrinkles. It is not like he has to live up to some high expectations with our young team or like when given a very talented roster he chocked. He doesn’t deserve to be another Mark Jackson. Heck if anything Mark Jackson deserves serious consideration to be our Hornets next head coach.
These are two men who have been treated unfairly in my opinion. Maybe there were personality conflicts with their former teams upper management and owners but it shouldn’t mean there are no teams they can’t work for afterwards. That is just my opinion. I am all about people at least getting second chances. These two men deserve that much. Especially Mark Jackson. There has been more than enough time gone by. If Miles Bridges and the such are allowed to repair their images and reputations than Adrian Griffin and Mark Jackson deserve as much in my opinion!
I would imagine there are JJ candidates every cycle where never-been-coach-candidates get interviews to give them the experience of it. Teams could do that for myriad reasons. That he got invited back might mean he did surprise the front office in a positive way.
I’m still a Lee-first guy and do feel that’s the right direction. But interesting in a curious way that JJ might be popping.
Whatever. The Suns should not have gotten swept and in convincing fashion. They should have done better than that. I agree that the Timberwolves are a top 3 or 4 team but most of the pundits expected the Suns would do better based on how they finished the regular season.
When this Suns team was put together they were expected to at least compete against almost any team in the NBA. They fell far short. The fact that people are discussing waiting for Vogel to get fired is only happening because his Suns failed in the way they did!
I realize our situation is different than the Suns and I think a younger upcoming assistant would be best. If we want a head coach with a winning reputation and experience than why not Jeff Van Gundy? I also would rather a coach like Adrian Griffin get a fair chance to show what he can do with at least a full season. I also think more than enough time has gone by in regards to Mark Jackson and him getting a chance at being a head coach again!
Charles Lee is my first choice but the other coaches I mentioned should get serious consideration if for some reason that job falls through! Yes I do realize Van Gundy and Charles Lee are members of the Celtics in different positions. I am fine with either as our Hornets head coach.
Celtics took care of business last night and will be awaiting the winner of a possible seven game series between Cleveland and Orlando. IF we do not hear any Charles Lee news at this point I’m going to go out on a limb and say the Hornets pivoted to another candidate or he declined.
So if he and JJ decline Steve Clifford will be back for round 3 right? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
