Gordon Hayward signs with Charlotte - 4 years/120M

Was told we were working on something better than that…

Good Lord

Ball better be a top 5 player or we are fooked!

I want to have faith we’re not but they keep telling me we are (waiving and stretching to make this happen)

Feels like Lance Stephenson all over again, just 5.7 times worse financially

Cmon man, not Lance but daaang

It’s basically 2 years of 9M dead cap…

At least we will have one of the best 3 deep back courts in league… haha

Graham / Melo / Riller
Hayward / Terry / Monk

And here I was, looking forward to taking advantage of teams in cap trouble and getting an extra 1st rounder to add to our own early to mid lottery pick going into what is thought to be a very strong draft. All it required was one more season of patience. One more.

All I wanted was Harry Giles for cheap…

I just don’t get it, man… suffering through 4 years of that contract, and we abandon ship right when it was most beneficial at the last minute.

It was the single dumbest move we could make this offseason standing in contrast to the single smartest one we could make by keeping him… and yet, here we are. All the goodwill and hope they had built up since Mitch came on and had us feeling like we had maybe, finally turned the corner… and they flush it all down the toilet.

Look at our current roster and compare it to the contenders. What’s our big 3? Hayward, Ball (hopefully), and Terry/Graham/PJ? I mean, Melo is an unknown, but even if he is a world eater out of the gate (and I believe he will be be great), that still doesn’t stack up with Brooklyn, Miami, Milwaukee, or Philly. And yet, he we are, locked in for 4 more years and it’s almost like we just hit the reset button with a brand new Batum.

We were dangerously close to the 8th seed last year and have improved greatly so maybe we are banking on continued improvement next 3 years?

If Hayward stays healthy it will be solid, if not, disaster

I felt like we pulled the trigger on signing big Al one year early, and now we do it again. Why can’t we be patient!1

Definitely an overpay, but 9mm in dead cap isn’t the WORST. At some point you have to take steps to develop the young talent you have. Honestly a lot better than 20 for Montrezl. As far as the lottery goes the new odds make getting lucky as a borderline playoff team kind of the ideal path. The front office must also REALLY believe in lamelo (I do too haha so I’m not too mad)

I’m holding onto hope that this is not all of the story

fuck this shit what the hell

For that much money the pornstache has got to go. Then I’m ok with it.

Also we were seemingly not Likely to be players in the FA classes when we would have space, so it feels like this move was made with that in mind

Mitch has deserved benefit of the doubt so far…maybe this is a hardball attempt to get Ainge to take Terry + change + 2nd rounder, otherwise the Celtics get nothing for Gordon at all.

But again, this team as-is, without rapid and exponential development of the young guys, is not better than the rest of the East. Hell, if they were feeling that froggy, go all in on a Harden or throw everything you got at a homestate guy like Ingram. This shit makes no sense. We just approached (by waiving Batum) and signed Hayward like he was a Top 15 NBA player. He was literally the 4th option on the Celtics.

Hoping so… 20 chars

Hahahaha

Pretty much what I said when I saw Bonnell’s tweet

Holding out hope

Seriously though watching him in this summers playoffs I kind of thought he looked washed. I kept thinking Stevens needed to get him off the court ASAP. If so; well my oh my what have we done here.

True

This is about what we can get

We need:

Hayward to be a 20/5/5 guy
Graham to continue his progression
Melo to become an All Star
Miles and PJ as 13/10 guys
Monk to emerge from the abyss

And all is good

Is that asking too much?

In his defense, he was playing through injuries, iirc… but, thats even more proof of why this deal is horrible. He hasn’t been able to stay healthy since the catastrophic ankle injury. Nor has he been the same level of player since coming back from that injury, even when he is healthy. He essentially is washed.
