Melo had 2 fouls early and fouled out the game be for. In the 2nd half he was forcing . We lucky ISH bailed us out. Like someone said he is just 20 . He has to let this one go and get back to his game tomorrow. Talent is their but he still has a lot to learn.
Wasnāt talking about last night specifically, more of the way that Borrego generally handles Lamelos minutes.
I think LaMelo just showed up distracted and possibly tired last night. Heās 20 and life is very, very good lol. I think he wasnāt mentally there; so yeah thatās likely a coaching and maturity thing.
I donāt really read it as benching. I think he likes to have is starting PG start the halves and close out the halves, so thereās blocks of time in the middle where he wants him to rest. He played 24 minutes, which is a bit low, but I read that more as Ish is being productive and he could afford to sit Melo than a benching.
I kind of hoped it was a benching thing to let Melo know as well as ever other player if are not giving 100 % he will let you sit . It puts a message to ever one come ready to play. I think JB understands effort versus not being ready . Pop is known for being straight up with his players. JB seams to be the same way. Pops stars respected that and i think we are taking on the same culture hear.
This happened in the Brooklyn game too where JB left Ball on the bench.
JB did this last year as well, leaving Ball on the bench for long stretches of time and benching him for not playing well.
Thereās a fine line of sitting a player who isnāt playing well or making stupid decisions versus benching a young player because they make some mistakes. Young players will turn the ball over and make mistakes and they have to learn to play through that. He canāt do that if heās immediately benched. And if anything, the fear of being stuck on the bench for a long stretch would put a lot of pressure to not make mistakes-which will make it worse.
I am sure Ball starts and plays better tonight . I will be watching the effort , playing time , and subs
I say Ball has his step back tonight/
