NBA Draft Lottery Thread šŸ˜Ž

That’s good enough for me. I’ll take it.

Fun thought exercise

Hornets win the lottery.

Phone rings.

It’s the bucks. They offer Giannis for both terry and Hayward both picks this year and two future 1sts.

What do you say.

Yes please !!

Tough one, but Giannis is young enough, I’d probably do it. It would honestly bc really tough though

Yes!!! Not just because seeing Ball-Giannis awesome.

A FO that Commits to this, FO commit to spending above cap and winning.

Under luxury this year about 75 million after trade.
Next year under around 94 million, Mello max would be included unless franchise go over luxury for first time ever.

IF the franchise was to do that, it would CLEARLY be to win now. So, yes, I think you’re probably right that they’d be ā€œall inā€ to make things happen now.

The question is do all the pieces work together enough to put you in that top 3-4 teams in the league. Probably? But if not, you’d be hurting for a while giving up that many firsts.

You definitely take the call on a Giannis offer though.

It was a better article than the headline suggested. I really liked this bit:

This year, the Hornets should practically make rules in regards to their process.

No player over the age of 20, unless his production is through the roof, and there’s a clear path towards emulating such production at the pro level.

No player with wonky shooting mechanics, since the way to build around Ball is putting players around him who can consistently space the floor.

Positional fluidity is a must, and any player without the ability to defend at least two positions should not be considered

Aggressiveness is a skill, and any player who doesn’t back down from a challenge is moved up the board

I agree with all of that. Could be such an interesting Draft, though I’d be very surprised if we make more than 3 picks.

Avoid draft absolutes.
22 year old higher 20 at #28 take that ā€œold manā€

Tweaking there is a realistic path to using all picks for a 14 roster & 3 two ways.

39 & 41 pick
two ways

28, 34…add these, only have to keep 4/5 from messy projects already have. Wait, not McGowens, 3/4 of those others.

#1 pick

Leaves 2 open roster spot to get Ball some competent floormates, needed adults in the locker room…keep MJ his money.

2/3 PJ, Oubre, DSJ

Sending our 7 foot good luck charm.

I’m probably alone on this one but I’m going to be A-OK with getting 7th. Not only for expectations but because the 3 and a half minutes to get from 7th to 4th expecting a Bobcat logo on every card flip by Mark Tatum will take a good 10 years off my life. And heaven forbid we make it to the commercial break and still haven’t had our card flipped. That plus the will-they-or-won’t-they on each flip after will take 2-3 years more off my life. And we all know that we won’t get #1 so all of that loss of life-essence for a #2 pick … eh, I’ll take #7 and live much longer and happier.

I reject this. I want my heart racing at 170 bpm when we find out we crashed and burned

Pfft, I can get there on the trainer while I am watching the results come in. That’s a good use of HR, not the stuff that happens when I am watching us crash and burn (either in the last inbounds of a 1 or 2 point Clifford coached game, or the Mark Tatum card turns).

I need a repeat of the epic lottery live chat where we all imploded after getting the #2 pick, lol. Good times

Ah, haha, back in my still-highly-optimistic days trying to talk everyone down that it wasn’t that bad. Though I might be thinking of the actual draft and not the draft lottery.

But what is life if you’ve never played a few rounds of russian roulette? This reminds me of a scene that horrified me as a kid, the roulette game with salt water in Alien Nation.

I imagine each card reveal will feel just like buddy here, until the inevitable…

Argh, we only rank with Alien Nation the series and rent-a-Mick-Jagger, not Cann & Patinkin level. That’s perfectly on-brand lol

We’ll know if we’ve moved back by how many move up. So if 2 move up before the pick at 6 and that isn’t us, we’re top 4.

It would take 3 to move up between 8 and 14 for pick 7 to be a concern. Again if that happens and we’re not 7, then we’re top 4.

So we’ll know pretty fast if we’re in the top group or not.

I think that works.

Edit: Actually this is wrong. We won’t know because the 5th or 6th place team could move up, but would be after we find out we’re 6th or 7th. Sorry about that!

Wait are there 4 in the top group or 3?

Got to be 4 if there’s a chance we could drop to 8. For that to happen 4 teams between 9 and 14 would have to move up.

Edit: Nope not so simple. 4 teams between 5 and 14.

I have a strange feeling that we are getting Scoot and he will be better than Wemby

In that case, the real money move would be to move down to #2 for a kings ransom
