Demands for tank, Restart, reboot, etc
Until a fundamental shift in how organization runs things doesn’t matter long term anyhow.
Not spending is understandable for low revenue team.
Team made 94 million last year, 107 prévios 3 years.
To still not spend over cap, or just not cap coach, staff, basic player amenities. We fans & Charlotte city spent $175 million on Spectrum are suckers MJ laughing at while smoking cigars & drinking bourbon.
What if all this waiting paid off? What if Mitch pulled of some trades and loaded up on 1sts and 2nds. And they turned into good prospects or players?
And we signed a good player with the cap room next off season?
What if something good happened? What if we are able to offload plumlee, rozier, Oubre for something good? Sort of like how the graham trade was a slam dunk win.
I doubt it, but it’s fun to think about.
Oh, and last thing-Hayward isn’t going anywhere. He has negative trade value and isn’t worth giving away assets at this point.
The Graham trade allowed us to trade our own 13th pick for worse picks and still get the guy we wanted at 15! Mitch was playing chess while we were all playing checkers there. Hell of a trade. haha
Indeed, in a different situation, he would be an absolutely incredible backup. The timing is just unfortunate with Cliff’s doggedness of prioritizing playing time to vets.
I do think we have to keep realistic expectations of what Mason and Kelly can bring back. If we don’t want to take back a bad contract, there’s little to no chance of a first, IMHO. They’re contracted to the end of the year, so are strictly rentals. I think the best we can hoe for is a couple of seconds and/or a young player that’s buried on a depth chart.
I’m fine with Mason going, for just about anything, as we need to get his production off the roster and clear minutes for our young Centres.
Likewise, Kelly, who will want too much for us to resign (unless we can do something with GH’s ‘expiring’ contract in the off-season) and his minutes can be shared out among McDaniels, McGowens and Cody.
While I’ll never forgive or forget how Mitch generated his latest trove of second round picks, he does seem to pick the right players with them … so load up!
Hyland is their primary backup PG and gets lots of minutes. Not exactly a move a national title contender would make. He is very young and raw so perhaps they would swap him with Dennis Smith to get more of a veteran presence.
Hyland all offense no defense. Doesn’t seem to fit our needs necessarily.
All I will say is Kupchak said in the town hall we will be active, and mentioned Terry Rozier BY NAME when talking about sending out a player and bringing back picks and a role player that fits team well.
If we do not trade at least Plumlee and Oubre, we failed
Not happy #7/8 w/20 minutes a game being Murrays backup, don’t see open to being backup in Charlotte behind Mello. Highest usage on team, lowest producer for poor bench unity.
Top 6 roster playoff caliber team good, rest not so much. Want to get better, but not pay a lot in $ (already paying 17 million in luxury so no exception) & picks.
But Better than our high usage low efficiency guard Bouknight, guess should be calling about swap and players to help get bench better for this year Denver playoff run, some possible pieces involved and salaries matching.
Bouknight…Hyland
Pool reporter question: “Mitch, you have been reluctant to make big in-season trades in your tenure with the Hornets. How active will you be at the trade deadline and are you empowered by ownership to fully commit to selling at this point in this season?”
Mitch: “You know with trades, there’s a team that’s trading, and a team that is on the other side of that trade. The team that wants to make the trade has to listen to the offers and consider all aspects of the trade. And the team on the other side has to be able to make the trade work financially, under the cap if they are a cap room team, or if they are over the cap, they have to provide assets in return of close to equal value. And you have to want what they are trading of-course. So there’s a lot to work out when it comes to trades.”
