2022 Draft: Who you like?

Or, might they be a potential trade partner for Terry?

  • The Wizards‘ lottery pick (No. 10) is widely thought to be available in a deal that would send a “proven backcourt player” to D.C., per Givony.

If Duren makes it to 10, we’d be ahead of NY and be able to snag him.

Just a thought …

Mo can’t be traded to any body til he get’s a contract. Can not believe you would trade Terry for MO If it could be done . Trading less than 1o ppg for 20ppg. WCJ averages way more than MO. But some want a teir 3 center who has been in the league 4 years starting and produces those kind of numbers. WCJ Produces twice those numbers points and rebounds and hits the 3 ball at about the same clip

I think if we ever trade up in the draft, this might be the year we do it.

You will notice that the most that you hear about our team is speculation. Don’t be alarmed that you dont hear a bunch of noise outside if Jake Fischer (who talks in speculation and jumps to conclusions often, but he does have some good info).

I would be happy with an Athlete like Duren, adding to our team of incredible unicorn type athletes.

I would love to draft our future starting SF. When you look at it, we are just as thin at SF than C when you look into the future. Mitch goes BPA and I know Larry and his guys have been on top of things. Scouts for sure have been travelling everywhere, I would expect more news to leak about our potential targets next week, but right now it is very speculative.

Its always Rival execs with us, never a “source close to FO”. Reads as more of a speculatiom than a, “hey they called and offered this” type of situation.

I mean, it makes sense, but it is also common sense to perform due diligence.

The bigger news would be if it was reported that the Hornets WEREN’T considering moving a pick and weren’t taking calls on them.

Brace yourself boys! We might be overpaying for somebody’s busted up cast off (Westbrick or Marco Belinelli) instead of getting two “high upside” picks.

Look for Homes or WCJ

Seems that weird thing I was thinking earlier about either Mathurin or Griffin falling is shaping up. Mathurin seems solidified as top 6, but latest Ringer mock has Griffin to us at 13 and Mark Williams at 15.

I actually like picking up these 2 dookies a lot. If our team is gonna be questionable for the next few years with salary cap/free agency/trading issues, then the more assets we have on cost controlled salaries, especially for mid round picks for the next few years, is the next best case scenario in building around Melo.

So if we lose Miles and wait out Gordon, then maybe having Kai, Thor, Bouk, AJ, Mark W, Jalen, and Melo all grow together like the young Grizzlies, and then finally getting some cap space….maybe, just maybe, the smallest slivers of light could finally sneak through the cracks of our basement dungeon, and we could finally feel the smallest warmth of hope on our faces….before the storm clouds then cover the sun, and we become soaked from the downpour.

The Ringer finally released its team need write-up! Our 1st need should be a coach!

Anyway, can we agree that we don’t have the cash on hand to even talk about moving up in the draft? We maybe can’t even afford two 1st mid round picks!

Griffin would be a solid Mitch pick.
Like Mitch first 3 drafts, #13 looks to have some players expected to come in and play heavy minutes game one, Griffin would move to top of that list of Davis, Agbaji, Barnham, Sochan, Eason.

I think Branham is the only one from your list who I wouldn’t expect to see minutes from if we were to draft him. Solid group you named, plenty of players to like in this draft.

Duren, Daniels, Davis & AJ (medical dependent) would be great picks at 13 … if any of them are there.

Williams, Agbaji & Sochan, maybe Eason too, would be great at 15.

And there are plenty of players I really like further down the board if we trade back.

Not really thought about Griffin, as I assumed he’d be gone. The only question mark with him is his medical report. If there are no flags there he’d be a great selection.

Happy draft day eve everyone. Hopefully something good happens.

One day out and I still don’t really know who I want. Mark Williams and Jalen Duren intrigue me but I’m still very invested in the development of Kai. I like some of the two-way wings but I’m unsure if with Terry on the roster they’ll get the Bouknight treatment

There are lots of players who could really help us, probably in the rotation this season, but certainly next … depending on our win now vs. develop players priority.

I want to believe it’s possible to bring in Bamba; say goodbye to Hayward, Terry, Oubre & Mason; sign Miles in the mid 20s AND select a lengthy, multi-positional defender in this draft. That’s the, admittedly blue sky, outcome I have my fingers crossed for.

Sign me up for that journey you mentioned in your last few sentences. I would be on cloud 9. That would be such a great rebuild and roster retooling. Like it or not, this roster needs a reset. Yeah sure, I want to get good value back on Hayward and Rozier, but I value having a clean cap sheet and a promising roster to build around more.

Ball & Dyson Daniels
Cody & Bouknight
Miles & McDaniels
PJ & Thor
Bamba & Kai

That would do me very nicely and set us up for the long term.

*7 x Hornets 1st round picks, 2 x Hornets 2nd round picks and only 1 player acquired outside of our draft. Build that group, build that culture and do so with controlled salaries.

That is a guaranteed 20 win season. We don’t even need a head coach w that line up.

When PJ gets dominated by tall PFs, TJ can come in and not score. Let’s be honest, Cody is a bench player at best but it would be classic bobcats to start him. Bouk could not crack the rotation on a non play off team and Bama is averaging 11 points a game.

Two starters, bench players (PJ, Bama, Cody) a bunch of dudes who have yet to prove themselves in an actual game and Jalen. Actually that is a 10 win season line up.

Of course it’s going to be a losing season.

It’s supposed to be. We’re developing a young core of players.

Nonsense.

Ball, Miles and PJ were core payers this season, and will be better next. Cody is a downgrade on Terry, no doubt, but Bamba is a HUGE upgrade on Mason.

In this scenario, we’ll be a lottery team next season but your talk of 20 wins, or 10 as you ended up stating, is just daft. If I had to put a number on it, I’d guess around 33 wins.

But the number of wins isn’t the point. As @powellrmp posted, the idea here (and it’s what I would like to do, not what I think will happen) would be to reset salary and build a culture and a style of play with a young team that we can add pieces to when needed.
