2022 Trade Deadline Thread

I don’t think so. I think he’s a top 10 player. He’s a franchise changer.

I feel that, we have to keep Miles no matter what, and to do that we need cap space. I am ok with letting go Gordon (since he is injured too), PJ, and Bouk for Simmons, and Oubre for Holmes. Highly doubt Mitch would do these many changes tho.

Y’all want to pay Ben Simmons almost 40 million dollars a year? Have y’all lost your minds

Say more. Go on.

I wonder if Bouknight and PJ Washington gets it done for Mo Bamba+2nd rounder or lesser player

I kind of get to a place where I don’t want to be a .500 ball club and I’d almost do anything. That’s why I’m not a GM

Me too! It’s easier to do when my job doesn’t depend on the success of it.

We’re in a strange position where we’re not specifically looking to add to our talent level, though clearly doing so would be nice, as much as we are trying to rebalance the roster.

That’s why I think/hope there are a fair few conversations going on. If there’s a good defensive wing available, we should be having a conversation. Clearly, if there’s a rim protecting big out there who can also rebound well, then we must try to get them. PJ isn’t going to be resigned, so what is out there for him? Oubre might have priced himself out of our budget beyond the existing deal and his contract is one of the most tradable in the league … there’s so much we could and should be doing, I really hope we are.

Doubt it man, but count me in if so

We agree on a lot of things, but Simmons is worth it to me man.

That’s true, we do see eye to eye on many things.

But I could not be any farther away on the spectrum about Simmons. Huge no.

And my thoughts on Simmons have been the same since even before this hold out he’s doing. And that’s just the basketball part…but basketball aside, from a character perspective…yikes.

Character issues are concerning for sure. But I’m hoping it’s more of he needs a change in scenery. But you very well be right. I just miss Malik.

I am in the same boat, we have a similar ideology on the team. I think adding Simmons without giving up too much elevates us at least 1 tier in the conference.

His defense is being underrated on this board, as well as how deadly him and Lamelo would be as a tandem

I feel like he’d solve a lot of our defensive issues… since he can guard all 5 positions.

I’m not doubting you at all on the good attributes Simmons has. The athleticism, playmaking, defensive do-it-all. It’s top tier. Phenomenal.

But it’s a huge if. If he pulls it together again. If the character issues persist. If he continues to crater in the playoffs. Never comes around to shooting the ball. Not making free throws.

You can’t have a guy on your team who makes almost 40 million dollars per year…for three more seasons…that you don’t feel good about being in the game in crunch time because he’s a career 52% free throw shooter in the playoffs.

And we’re counting on a guy who has the ego strength of a baby chicken to hopefully to mentally “un-fuck” himself and get right. Per reports, he’s refused to see therapists to work on this stuff. So what makes us think he’s done any emotional growth if he’s not willing to talk about it or get help?

That’s a lot of concerns man.

Gotta take risks to build a contender in the NBA as a small market.

I agree that it is a big risk. We will appreciate him here unlike they did in philly

Does PJ even have value?

Nope. PJ doesn’t really have any value. I’d he did, we would’ve heard about it or teams would’ve had more interest.

Significant value of you listen to the NBA pod circuit. Recent redraft, he moved up a spot or two from his draft position. Rarely see the feelings of futility reflected here out in the general nba talk space.

I think you’re totally right on needing to take a risk. Which is why we should trade for Mo Bamba. With Simmons, he could wake up one morning and decide he’s done playing basketball for charlotte because he had an argument with the coach.

However, Mitch is one of the more risk averse GM’s in the league.
