2024-25 Hornets General Discussion

With this being his dominant hand, i have an immediate throwback to the breakout Lamb season where he developed such a better handle. Maybe this allows B. Mill to really get his left hand work in and he can move into being a much relaible handle next year with Melo, Mark, and Coop/Bailey/Harp.

Fun, encouraging fact:

Mark Williams has a player efficiency rating of 28.6, after 16 games(9 on the road).

28.6 would qualify him as 4th in the league, right below Giannis and right above Anthony Davis, if Mark had done it in a few more games. For example, Luka made the basketball reference list at #6, with only 22 games played.

And speaking of Anthony Davis, which relates to general ā€œHorncatā€ draft situation PTSD in general, Jalen Duren has a player efficiency of 19.0 in 38 games(42nd in the league).

Yes, availability is the best ability, so let’s hope Mark has turned a corner.

You guys know this team so well. Our precious BMW is breaking down but our old Mercedes Benz (MB-Miles Bridges) will probably help ā€œdriveā€ our wins right into the late lottery garage where we love to park.

Seriously, these last several years have been excruciating as a fan of the hornets and although we’ve most certainly continued to have an abundance of injuries, I felt like we’ve had enough healthy Melo, Brandon, Miles and support to be better than we have been. But I swear, now that we’ve got ourselves here, we absolutely MUST find a way to land one of those top 3 picks. Please don’t screw this up. I will be just as ecstatic to land Ace Bailey as Cooper Flagg. Harper as well.

Let’s suddenly give Walter Hermann some minutes, finish a low win season at 9-7 in the final 16, and lose a shot at drafting Kevin Durant. Oh wait…

I have zero concerns the Merc can out-drive its destiny. The Bridges component showed that perfectly last night with the Poole-level dumbassery attempted 3 in the 2nd to last possession.

This is the really sobering truth about our season. I’ve wanted to believe we were a playoff team if everyone was healthy. But I’m not so sure about that anymore. The injuries have held us back for sure, but we’ve lost to the Wizards twice, once with the core 4 all playing and once with all but Brandon. Then we struggled to beat a decimated Jazz team with all of the core 4 having big nights. Missing Tre and Grant in addition to the games the core group has missed has crushed us for sure, but despite all that I have to agree with you that we still should’ve been better than we’ve been.

I just hope the whole org ā€œreads the roomā€ at this point… move Miles (and Green please), play lots of TJ. Even the most devoted, tortured fans among us are about to break at this point… the NBA and Org need to see/feel that.

Didn’t hear anything about it, but looks like the LA games have been rescheduled.

Theoretical question, if we continue in this track and are in the 2-4 pick range, is Bailey on our radar or are we in full for Harper or Jakucionis ina combo-guard De’Aaron Fox mold? And if that’s the case, do you make a move in the offseason to get Fox with the pick?

Ive heard so much bad talk about josh green but in reality but he is shooting just as good from fg and better from three than our other small forwards i understand that tidjane would maybe develop better if he starts but he is not good enough right now and we all saw what martin did vs the bulls so i just wanna say josh is a 3 and d player he will never lead the team in anything and i wish he could be on the bench because i know he would be better on the bench but we dont have another option

How would melo work with fox? Melo is super high usage. For fox to be successful, so is he. Melo and rozier ran into problems with usage too.

I don’t think you can pay both melo and fox in an arrangement that weakens both players

Appreciate the optimism.

I guess the other silver lining is a higher draft pick most likely with him out.

Lord willing we get Flagg or a stud 2 Guard and a healthy 2026 season.

I think incredibly well. It’s a two headed snake when they are both in, and staggered, you never give the other teams defense a break.

I do. All I know is sadness and disappointment.

Happy to see this. I had certainly hoped the initial trade was just Step 1 and that we were going to get more from that than just Okogie and a couple of seconds.

Quick maths: all we need to do is go 30-13 to end the season to get back to .500 basketball at the end with a 41-41 record. Easy!

Kidding, but we have a 9 game home stretch that is going to be pretty critical.
