If true, this would be the biggest load of bullshit I’ve ever seen. How does it benefit us to buy him out. He was our young freaking franchise starting center.
Think that’s traveling on latest conjecture but there’s nothing that has made the news yet either on his return or plans.
The source might be bad, but I wouldn’t be shocked if true. Maybe because he thought he was part of the future here or possibly what the Lakers found in the physical and Mark feels like CLT was either incompetent or not telling him the truth. Knect is back playing for LA, Mark isn’t even with the team. Not holding anything against him. Just an odd situation to be in I’m sure. But if true, no way I buy him out. Guarantee he would be with the Lakers. No way I gift them Mark. Would be nice to get some final resolution to this saga.
Absolutely not forgiven.
I hereby rescind Melofan’s HP membership. And melofan will not be reimbursed their HP membership fees. Will also be fined a 2087 2nd round pick. It can be appealed, but I own everyone and everything associated with the appeals process.
I’d tend to agree with that sentiment. This will be a messy return to Charlotte and I think folks might be underestimating the significance of what occurred. It’s why I’m very much for challenging the rescinded trade. Albeit, there is a .01% chance it’s overturned. But I also think there is a weird message to publicly broadcast that says, “we’re not lying, our organization is solid, mark Williams isn’t broken, and he’s worth what was asked”.
I think if the new hornets FO DOESNT challenge it, that would look bad and send a bad message to the league and also mark.
Having said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the relationship with mark Williams is toast. And we end up trading him for peanuts around draft time.
Agreed, I like Mark. I’ve liked him since Duke and he was one of the few times ever that we’ve actually drafted the guy I wanted us to take. And I’m sure getting traded is tough on an emotional level, let alone getting caught up in this crazy scenario, so I’m not insensitive to how he’s probably feeling, but if this rumor is true, absolutely no way can we afford to let a 1st round pick and a guy we all thought was a core piece to our team just two weeks ago, hit the open market and get nothing in return. If there ends up being any truth to this, we need to be prepared to hold the line. We’re as much victims in this as he is. At a minimum he needs to play out this season and next if for no other reason than to rehabilitate his value by proving to the rest of the league he isn’t broken and affording us the opportunity to get something decent in return.
It’s so unfair to us. The Lakers approached us and gave us an offer we couldn’t refuse… knowing they could just back out. They f’d us and they should pay for it.
If you’re feeling depressed as a Hornets fan, this will make you smile. Nice updated compilation of Eric Collins’ best calls.
EC+Dell really is the only thing we can tip our caps to as hornets fans. Not a lot of good going on.
Edit: the Melo behind the back pass from about halfcourt to mark that starts around 6:05 is

This for some reason this is one of my favorite EC calls. Where Melo tries to do something a little too cute and misses a wide open dunk. EC’s voices drops to such a level of true, empathetic sadness. He does a great job of capturing the feeling of the game in the moment, on such a real and personal level. The way his voice drops to:
“oohhh…Lamelooo…”
If for some silly reason we buy out Mark and the Lakers pick him up then we should be allowed to have Knecht and the FRP back to us, because they obviously played us after knowing his medical history then why would they originally back out of the trade inbthe 1st place.
Know way do i ever want to be a trade partner with Lakers again, its like the big brother flexing his muscles over little brother, just p***** me off.
I’m not sure if I buy into the mark Williams sitting out stuff. I know he has to be feeling hurt for several reasons, but mark pulling a Jimmy butler doesn’t really seem to align with his character. Second, him sitting out and demanding a buyout doesn’t really make sense for his next contract/market value.
In fact, playing and playing well is the only thing he can do at this point to counter the health allegations.
In terms of him not playing the last two games: it doesn’t really make sense given what is happening with the hornets. It’s apparent that charlotte is pushing legal action and may have some belief they can get the deal completed. If this is their mindset, why risk a freak injury to mark in meaningless games? And the season is over. The mission is to lose games at this point, and keep people healthy. So no mark until this is done with.
I wouldn’t look too much into mark williams not playing
Need a statue of Eric outside of the Spectrum Center. What happened to Devonte Graham? I always liked him. Rozier just hasn’t produced since being traded.
Nice. Also, here’s a clip that took me back to why I’m a diehard of this godforsaken team. I remember those feelings. Just to have games with meaning again.
Listen to how loud this place was. This is why us old heads are so adamant, if we ever had a good team, we’d have the best fans in the league. Getting kicked in the nuts 25 years in a row kills all of that.
That 93 2nd round series against New York that place was on fire. The 2001 Game 6 loss to Milwaukee was as loud as I’ve ever heard the old Coliseum. It was shaking in the upper levels. Sweeping the Heat in the first round of the 01 playoffs was loud too.
I wish I could find it, but there was an article the Observer did years ago that said the old Coliseum crowd was louder than a garbage truck. They actually did like a decibel test lol
QC, for me, there was nothing more exciting than that '93 run into the playoffs.
We truly looked like we were becoming the team of the 90s. And the style of play was genuinely entertaining. It wasn’t just the fact that we were young and winning.
It’s a shame it faltered a bit, but Bob Bass did well to keep a decent product on the floor over the years.
I was fortunate to attend some games from 1988 to the mid 90s. It was awesome. That said, I enjoy having an arena downtown now. I like to walk places before and after the game. Can’t wait to to see a true winner down there.
Thanks for posting the great videos.
I was there for that #1 play. It’s literally the reason I became such a fan of the team.
Interesting question. I just hope the Hornets would be the ones making that choice.
Absolutely not. If Charlotte gets #1 (Flagg) and trades it for more picks of undetermined value, I would absolutely quit
