This angst isn’t directed towards you but…I’m certain WE don’t like the look… of this BS. As if Hornets fans needed any further push. If we don’t get the #1 overall draft pick after this season I seriously might be out of following the league. Fed up with the NBA as it stands.
The Hornets’ saving grace on all this has been the All-Star break and the West Coast trip. We don’t have a home game until March 1st so unless another team’s media asks they don’t have to really address anything right now publicly.
Its just sets a precedent for future trades, if 1 team thinks they’ve been done then they’ll make something up, i mean come on they’re think he won’t be fit next year or 2 years time that’s just bs
Exactly. Nobody has a crystal ball to see the future. If a player is healthy now and there’s nothing that wasn’t in the medical files from the past, they should pass the physical.
I can see some exceptions like finding a heart arrhythmia, bone deformity, etc that would keep them from playing immediately or will require a surgical intervention etc.
But that doesn’t seem to be the case here. The Lakers agreed with the hornets medical teams on Dx’s but seems to differ on Rx’s.
It seems to be that they rushed into a deal then realized that Mark may not be a 5-10 yr player. Then they wanted to back out. Seems much more like buyers remorse than a true uncovering of a medical condition.
The 10 years thing is ridiculous. Who trades for a guy expecting them to be there 10 years? I hope Mark comes back and plays well. If he does, we’ll all forget about this. Hopefully it turns into a blessing.
I feel like we have been cursed ever since borrego was fired.lol idk why. But i dont see why they havent protested this trade with adam silver yet? It certainly aint a guarantee of no.1 pick. The league doesnt work like that for charlotte.
Then the fact mark williams hasnt reported back to the team yet to deal with the “whirlwind” of emotions?? Come on now he cant be soft physically and mentally.
I miss the kemba and al days. Its sad that all these years later those bobcats/hornets still were the best teams we ever had. Depressing
Totally agree with this. He’s still getting paid millions and needs to be on the court. I’d hope it would light a fire under him… he does show he is mentally weak, which I don’t love. But hopefully by Wednesday, we’ll be good.
The Daytona 500 has been delayed by rain and is being run now. Removes any temptation to violate my boycott of the all-star weekend. ![]()
I’m watching it for some reason… makes it easier to watch for me without LeBron playing.
But, why in the hell did he wait unit the last minute to say he’s not playing… someone else deserving could have had his spot.
My guess: he waited for a combination of reasons like preserving ticket prices, general viewership ratings, helping the nba, etc. You know, making Adam silver happy.
My take is that he never planned on playing and there is no injury or discomfort he was referring to. Lebron and the lakers can get away with anything.
Some kind of an update should come out ahead of Wednesday’s LA matchup one would think. But weird that the league said we’d not filed anything formal. Seems to be contradictory.
I don’t doubt this was tough to deal with. It’s very rare that players actually get traded and then have to go back to the team that traded them. But I actually did watch some all-star stuff, (even though I had intended to boycott as well) and it was interesting listening to Kenny Smith talk about how he and Horry had been traded to the Spurs for Sean Elliott but the trade was rescinded after Elliott failed the physical. He mentioned how it actually made them more focused and they went on to win the back to back titles after that.
It really does come back to the mindset of the player. He has every right to be upset. But he can either be mad at us and pout and sulk, or he can channel that frustration into becoming a dominant force that proves everyone wrong about him, including us. I hope it’s the latter, but the course he chooses will tell us a lot about who he is as a person and player.
We probably intended/attempted to but the NBA gave us that look like… it’s in YOUR best interest to drop it.
Which is totally lame… bc we all know we wouldn’t get away with it if it were the other way around.
I’ll be shocked and majorly disappointed if he doesn’t play Wednesday against the Lakers, he should be on the floor to show them exactly what they’re missing 30pts & 20rebounds should do it. Come on Mark make it happen
If Peterson and the Hornets pushed forward with filing with the league to fight this trade, I’d bet that would’ve sealed the deal on the Hornets being big losers on lottery ball night…You can bet that Charlotte would get stuck with the worst pick possible. I know that’s a “tin foil hat” type of conspiracy take, but I’m still half serious.
Wasn’t it Detroit two years ago who had the worst record in the league, but were stuck with the #5 overall pick?
I used to think there was no way they would rig it. The league’s owners would sue for damages if it were to ever be determined. That was before the the 2 or 3 most recent tv deals and the shift from single owners or families to essentially corporations owning them.
The money is in the the value of the league as a whole not the teams. In the current structure, nba entertainment league is far more valuable than 30 individual teams.
It actually makes it less tin foil and more better business model to just rig the whole thing. Not necessarily each individual outcome and play but the direction and narrative of the league as a whole.
I feel like there is no way the Cavs got all those number 1 picks fairly.
