If both of these are accurate comps, I will take vj all day every day
Murray-Bowles and without shooting, or could be an MKG situ again
I’m in no way endorsing him, he should only be considered in a trade back. But we truly need to prioritize getting someone that wants to win
The biggest win in all of this is that we can finally (hopefully) forever put away the notion that wins are detrimental to getting the best draft picks.
We have way too many good options (3 at least) to consider trading back fast enough for a guy like that. That’s a player that a Memphis team least year could use. We need more than character. We need character+
After last nights debacle (or in other words, another average day in Hornet land), I think what bothers me most isn’t missing out on Cooper, or even falling a spot. It’s completely the karmic injustice allowing Dallas and San Antonio to sneak on by everybody. And Philly too.
I think if it was Utah, Washington, Brooklyn, then us, I would feel a few percentage points (maybe MKG’s 3P%) better. But those 3 winning feels like Basketball Zeus slapping me across the face and laughing, then Basketball Poseidon waterboarding us before Basketball Hades grabs us and pull us to the underworld.
Yes, the basketball gods are not benevolent beings, they are narcissistic psychopaths who feed off of how much misery they can create.
But, I think (and I was fighting this idea because I like to hold on to hope that “this is our year”) I’m adopting @Eastley’s conclusion that this was our final penance, our last sacrifice.
We’re guaranteed that 2 of Ace, VJ, or Tre will be there for us. I think I’m happy about that. We should be. I am.
As my coping mechanism, I’m proclaiming whoever is picked 3rd will be the bust and the 4th will be the star of the draft. Yeah, yeah, Cooper will be a perennial all star, but if we get VJ, he’ll be a taller Donovan Mitchell for us. Or if we take Tre, he becomes Devin Booker, without the smugness. Or maybe all these unfounded misgivings about Ace fuels him to become the next Tracy McGrady.
We are guaranteed a pretty damn good player to add who will really help this team out. Ace is still 6’9 with shoes on, just like every other player listed at “6’9.” All 3 are bucket getters, Tre the most talented on offense, VJ the best defender and most athletic, and Ace with potentially the most upside.
I think I’m still….maybe….excited for the draft and next season, cause I’m a sports masochist. If we add a hard nosed vet, plus get Grant healthy, I think we’ll see a new, energized, exciting team vs. what limped away from us this year. At least on paper.
My question is what did Charlotte do that was such an offense to merit this penance?
If you recap it:
- Lost the team to have the pathetic Danny devito twin replace it
- Lost out on #1 Howard with #2 emeka
- Lost out on #1 Davis with #2 mkg
- Lost out on #1 Wemby with #2 miller
- Have 3 teams leapfrog the third worst record in another key draft
And that list purposely ignores #2 so instead of #1 shaq
Lost a playoff series due to shirt color
Lost Stephanie Ready due to stupidity
Lost a hired head coach to who knows what
Here’s my take
Get in on the trade with Houston (I think they end up with KD) and try and get Jabari Smith, Cam Whitmore and Landale for the expiring contract of Jursic and some seconds. Orlando can use Anfernee Simons from Portland and we pry Anthony Black away for Josh Green.
Tell the team that. Don’t preach to the fans who know we’re in a losing situation anyway.
More concerned with Ace’s weight than his height. His length numbers would be solid for a 4-man if his career goes that route.
Honestly, the way our guys stay injured, we might as well get two or three of everything. The fact that Ace sort of duplicates Brandon Miller doesn’t really bother me that much.
That is the ultimate question. Who knows the origin?
Maybe Queen Charlotte accidentally opened a cursed box that unleashed its ill will towards her namesake forever more.
Maybe the basketball gods felt insulted when we rejected their great gift of Zo as a foundational piece.
Maybe MJ crossed over Bball Zeus and dunked on him, causing BBZ to condemn us to eternal suffering.
Maybe LJ stared at Bball Aphrodite too long and the other bball gods got jealous and entered a pact to curse the Mecklenburg lands.
Maybe just for existing.
This is a very Homer-esque write up mashed in with Alan West Batman show ending spinning Batman sign
Assuming we keep the pick - VJ probably is my top choice for D & attacking the basket. I love Ace for the idea of 2 tall shoot over you wings paired w/ Miller. Tre’s smile just makes me want to draft him - but obviously he’s a super talented scorer & led that team well. So fine w/ those. I could also be convinced that Kon’s ball movement & IQ would create a ton if Utah valued someone at 4 more than we did - but I get the reservations there.
Maybe we do look to throw all of the above away. Maybe pair 4 w/ Miles and get a proven vet like Bam & shift some of the dynamic. Or a similar well rounded player. Fine to move the pieces we have now and shake it up too - but I also lean to keep most of our guys because we still don’t know what we truly have after last year.
I felt all along & watching the exit interviews (notably Mark), that it was clear we were managing and jockeying. Mark basically said as much when he said he could go back to backs - but that it wasn’t his call. I dunno - I halfway trust Peterson. We needed the asset vs losing it in the Kai trade. But how bad is morale after the experiment yielded mid results - the Mark trade, last years draft, etc.
East will be much more open next year & I really really want to be the team that ends the Pacers season. I want Carlisle tears. Whatever that means.
Team No More Lottery. Do whatever we can.
I’m so out on Ace for this team. Players with that much usage who basically don’t get assists I have absolutely zero desire for.
I think you should cook us up a trade for Shabazz
Actually a pretty cool trade
SAMEY SAME SAME!!!
If I had to create a perfect rookie for us, it would be a defensive 2 that can shoot and still get to the basket for contact. That would do a ton for us, including opening things up for Melo and MIller.
In the couple of hundred words I’ve read about VJ, he seems to fit that bill pretty well.
But here’s my annual reminder that I know nothing about college basketball and can be talked into anything.
Same, same, same, same. I just know I loathe Duke
