Yeah, we’ve entered the “all-this-is-BS” part of the season.
That being said, I’d be way into moving Melo to secure the second pick. It just seems strange for San Antonio to do that unless they were going to get a vet that would bring everything together the way the Rockets sort of did with Van Fleet.
Shaquille O’Neal: I don’t know if you heard this story, but in 1992, I think with the draft, was it in June or something? I meet Mr. David Stern in March and he says to me, “Hey, can’t wait for you to come to the NBA.” Then he pulls me to his side and asked me ‘You want to play where it’s cold or where it’s hot?’ He asked me that. Yeah, he did. He asked me that and I was like, “Hot!” And he smiled and I smiled and then couple days later they had the draft thing and the top three things and then Minnesota was number three, then Charlotte was number two and then Orlando, Florida was number one.
I think the current state of charlotte hornets basketball, and the many years leading up to the present moment, is a partly attributed to plain bad luck-as well as a healthy dose of very poor decision making.
I try not to count the many strokes of poor luck, or all the heavy handed poor decisions on our end. Some people need to stay sober.
I always think about if we had won the AD draft. 6 years of a Kemba + AD core. In that era that team probably at least makes one ECF, maybe several, before being smoked by Lebron. But how different would our perception be if we even had that run in the past decade or whatever?
We’ve made our share of poor decisions but every team has. But it’s a star driven league and we’re yet to luck into one.
If I’m remembering correctly some really mediocre teams made the ECF during that era. Our 2016 squad with AD I feel like easily makes the ECF over that Toronto team.
I’ll pass, not high on Jabari Smith, Vanfleet is declining and the 10th pick wouldn’t get us much. Only way I’d consider was if they swapped Vanfleet for Green but they wouldn’t.
I still believe a healthy LaMelo can be a top 15 player in the league, I wouldn’t give him up unless it was a huge package or included a young star and multiple picks.
If Peterson and Lee are in fact building for the long term, this is the type of move that sets them up for long term success. Let’s say for Chits and giggles, you take Edgecombe at 4 and Maluach at 10. You now have depth at Center and a potential star, Jabari Smith gives a size/rebounding upgrade at the 4 and provides versatility to play Miles at the 3. You let Brandon Miller flourish.
You get a vet presence with Van Fleet, or hell at least another moveable trade piece AND first rd picks in '27 and '28.
The problem is when you run through the logic, it makes no sense for the Spurs. Milwaukee is doing the same equations as we are. Number two is worth a lot more if Harper is that much better as a prospect than #4 and #10.
