2024-25 Hornets' Postseason Moves

Nah they aren’t going anywhere. Way too much money in this city now than in 1999-2000.

9 straight years no playoffs and out drawing teams like Indiana, Memphis, and the LA Clippers who are solid playoff teams.

If we win, we’re top half of the league in attendance easily. Maybe even Top 10. We are 22nd now, insane right?

I was at the signing of the beginning

I was at first game

I was at the last game (as far as I am concerned it was the losing to the Bucks in the Glenn / Mason era.

I returned when Mike started to hint at buying in.

I was there when George gave the name back to Michael.

I still believe we are sitting in a hornets nest if we can get the Pale Rider from Newport, Maine.

Best top to bottom starting five in the league:

Melo
Miller
Bridges
Flagg
Big Mark

If I am Mark, I’m not sure I can ever forget what happened… but one can dream.

I also think that the combination of Miller and Bridges can guard most two guards in the league.

But with this line lineup, who cares

Looks like all the top of the lottery guys can help the Hornets. Not a shocker I know. Lol

Guess it’s post season moves

When I saw that line about it being the Spectrum Center’s 20th anniversary…

I just…how? What is time? How can it have been 20 years already. Seems like they just put it up.

But it’ll be cool to see the arena all nice and shined up, and the opened up north and south side. Curious to see how the 1400 new lower bowl seats fit in.

All I know is that we get an extra 2" per seat in the Nest (though they are deleting 2 seats per row for that).

I was wondering how that was going to work…

Watching these playoff games, if we don’t A. Get massively stronger and B. Find some real foxhole guys; we have zero chance in a playoff series.

Also, this type of basketball would solve 90% of the NBA’s watch ability problems

Would you do it?

My biggest concern would be the '25 pick. I would like to move it to '26, with something like top 3 protection. However, no way Milwaukee does that. They would probably want Miller in return.

Probably not. That’s really leveraging your future, and he’s a UFA after 27-28. If things don’t work out, we’d be in real bad shape. I’d rather build young pieces like Cleveland, Detroit, and OKC have.

Very tempting but I’d have to know our spot in this draft before I made a final choice.

I should’ve been explicit, but this is if we don’t get the number 1 pick.

I would be for trading melo and 2 1sts for g.

But to answer your question

If the hornets got number 1, I may be convinced to trade Cooper and matching salary for Giannis and trying to field a relevant team for a few years

This is fun to talk about, but this is the exact type of move Jeff Peterson has said multiple times we would not do.

Then again that usually means we’ll do it. Lol

Even though I am a meloFan, from a Hornets perspective, it makes sense to trade Melo and 2 1st for Giannis, but I doubt the Bucks would do it, given they are stuck (achilles) with Lillard.

Cooper is an interesting take, and I think Giannis, Melo, Miller would be immediate playoff contender, something new owners might want.

Giannis and any 4 would be a playoff contender.

I have to admit, a trade like this is very tempting. Maybe not this exact version of it, but I could definitely get on board with the concept. I get the concern about mortgaging our future for a quick fix, but to me, this is precisely the reason you stockpile draft picks like we’ve been doing. When an MVP level talent like Giannis becomes available (assuming he does) that’s worth cashing in all the chips. A trio of Giannis, Lamelo and Brandon would make us a contender and that’s the goal. If it can happen sooner rather than later, that’s even better, because later is never promised.

I know we’d likely need to include Nurk’s salary to make the money work, but I’d even be willing to include Mark if that would allow us to preserve one of the 1sts because since Mark doesn’t space the floor the way Lopez can, I’m not sure how compatible he’d be with Giannis anyway. It’s definitely fun to dream about.

Another aspect is that having Giannis + Melo would attract veterans to sign with us, making our rotation deeper.
