It’s not wasting. I am sure they fished around for a bertrans deal and couldn’t find one. They then turned his money into an asset.
These seconds are going to be extremely valuable down the road if the hornets ever find themselves as an apron team. They are trade chips but also salary slots when you need to fill the roster.

I wonder how far into the 2nd round the draft went to get to a team that was the actual owner of their 2nd round pick. As opposed to all the pick swaps, trades, etc. that happens with 2nd rounders.
The rate and quantity of 2nd round picks that fly around is incredible.
Even during the trade deadline bridges had the power to veto anything. Now, the hornets seem more than willing to see him elsewhere, but no one really wants him. I’d also bet that the “reports” about teams’ interest in miles bridges is all from his camp.
I really doubt any team is going to pony up a trade anything half way meaningful for him. But we’ll see.

My guess on the signing is a look around the conference and figuring why not build some winning habits.
The Wizards, Pistons, Nets, Hawks, Raptors are going to be awful. The Hornets are going to play at least one meaningful game after the regular season by default as the number 10 seed at worst. If they happen to not make the playoffs it is a win win where the team made progress and they get some ping pong balls in a strong draft. I personally am so ready to experience some semblance of progress and welcome it.

Miles Bridges, only a player of his caliber has the off court IQ to rival his BBIQ on the court. He’s a horrible individual and team defender, subpar three point shooter, poor decision maker at times. He’s an empty calorie box score guy.
But yeah, he can occasionally give a highlight reel dunk/oop. Great. I hope he enjoys his contract. I’m not going to linger on this-onto the fucking season. Fuck a duck.
