2024 Hornets Offseason Thread

Now that totally sucks. I’m a big fan.

Everything powell said is absolutely true and this was the last result I wanted to see just shy of renouncing outright.

I’m seeing Bryce being waived too. I’m fine with that one.

Yeah I hope that the team has ambitions that exceed Poku. Plus moving him makes space and money for, hopefully, a winning vet.

I am sure we tried to trade Poku and couldn’t get anything.

so out today are bertans, poku & mcgowens?

Big trade coming!

Did they need to clear salary for Bridges? I’m a little confused.

Around 4.3 million waived between those two. Plus Bertrans so we’re pushing 10 million

I guess so TN but it’s not like we couldn’t go over the cap to sign the guy. I’ve seen we were going to use the room exception for Jackson so maybe that requires us to stay under cap?

Can still put together a package of Mann, Martin, Micic, Richards and more for BI!

Poku waived. I wonder if that means that they’re going to be keeping Tidjane Salaun in charlotte to start the year. Poku definitely would’ve been a threat to playing time for Salaun.

I’ve got a gut feeling we’re not trading Miles anytime soon. I hope that third year is a team option with little guaranteed.

Reportedly fully guaranteed with no options.

If my calculations are correct, miles expires with Brandon’s extension

Plow has the breakdown per player:

Well, it’s finally done. It is what it is, now we at least can get out of the murkiness with the different directions the team can go.

It is good to see with all the transactions that the Hornets brain trust seems to have a vision and a means to execute the plan. Old Hornets seemed reactionary, feeling like they could never make a move unless some dire circumstance was forced on them, and they had to pick a least bad option with a gun pointed to their head. There was never any confidence that moves they made had any future plans or were part of scheme, just individual moves that they hoped might work out.

I kinda wanted to see what Poku could be with more time here. Unicornish qualities, his height and 3 point shooting maybe could’ve created some poor mans Kristaps lineups. And Bertans did have a valuable trade chip with his contract.

But on balance, replacing Poku, McGowans, and Bertans with Josh Green and Reggie Jackson are definite player upgrades that actually help with depth of the team. Gaining 2nd rounders for future deals or cheap roster contracts instead of selling them off every draft is a much needed change that smart teams do.

And they mentioned bringing Curry back, so this can create space to bring that needed vet voice back to the locker room. Plus they still have an $8M MLE to bring in one more solid piece to round up the team.

Green, Jackson, Curry, 2nd rounders, MLE > Poku, Bertans, and McGowans

Miles is a transactional relationship. If a contender needs a wing scorer, there will be good deals with his moderate, starter money contract. Or if he somehow buys in to the system and is a good complementary player, he’s good depth to have on the wings.

Yeah, I don’t mind where we’re at right now. Nice mix of youth and experience. We can focus more on developing the young guys that need more attention. We still have a fair amount of flexibility aside from Ball’s contract, with reasonably priced contracts. (We may not like Miles’s contract, but I don’t think it’s far off in current league economics.)

Ultimately, I think we have some guys that can execute plays, which will in turn allow our younger guys to develop better.

If Ball is healthy, this should be one of the more solid- if unspectacular- teams we’ve put on the floor in a while.

This answers my question about going over cap. Hard not to like what Peterson has done.

We have 13 guys so who do we spend the rest of the MLE on?

Rational assessment and yes the FO/ownership are being shrewd and practical.

James is such a professional. Thanks for posting this because it gives a solid foundation to talk about the roster.

Looks to me that we should purse that Micic/Hunter Tyson Denver trade. Hunter gives us a young dynamic SF/PF and gets rid of a guy who doesn’t want to be here who’s also at a log jammed position.

Win win trade on the horizon?

Looks we can also use: Harry Giles, Orlando Robison, Precious Achiuwa, Daniel Theis or someone cheap.

Where did you get that Micic doesn’t want to be here…assuming that’s who you’re talking about. Because we traded for Jackson? I think he still gets plenty of minutes as it stands right now.

I am thinking we use the last two spots on two way players . Or second round pick and that 6.10 guy on our G league team.

All I know is that this year we will find out two things: does coaching make a difference? how much will a healthy roster make a difference?

I’m fairly happy with where we are at this point except I would have liked to keep Poku. I wanted to see if he could become a decent backup.
