I can’t buy the “nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen”. First, plenty of athletes have come disparate backgrounds. Second, literally everyone knows what it’s like to be depressed, down or troubled.
Not saying that it doesn’t lead to poor and selfish choices. I am saying as long as you continue to craft excuses, fake apologies and non-repentant heart postures, it will just continue.
Definitely some bad luck, but a lack of due diligence too? Bouknight, for one, had just this type of history from his college days.
Neither Monk or Bouknight appear to have come into the league with the maturity of an adult. Humility was/is clearly lacking too. Surely other teams passed on them, at least in part, because of this.
But it’s also the social media age where vacuous, faceless & nameless individuals back players/names/celebrities over experienced, knowledgeable, professional coaches and executives. We certainly don’t want to go back to the almost subservient way players used to be treated, but the pendulum has swung way, way too far the other way IMHO.
Cliche laden false apologies have become the norm. There was precious little acknowledgement of responsibility, just deflection and cheap shots at his JB.
Accept responsibility, grow the **** up and make more shots than fouls while on the court.
