And who among us wasn’t super scrawny at age 19? Give him two years and don’t start him this year.
Chef flexes and remembers the glory years
Miller talented, but needs patience.
Scoot vs Miller similar to Edwards vs Mello regarding physicality and body NBA ready.
Timeline really fit good for faster ascension If Miles not a SOB.
But Ball being the superstar (and healthy ) around a strong young core…PG Ball, SF Miller, PF PJ, C Mark to go with supporting cast SG Cody, C Nick & even F JT at little less than Jalen end up getting and/or good prospects from late rounds G NSJ, wing McGowan, etc.
Spend $ on a couple more vets & adults to go with Rozier for locker room during the process…even at cost of some of Mitch’s kids Bouk, Miles, & Kai.
Team Ball a Perennial playoff team that can move on from a semifinals out as Miller star talent comes into own.
Some guys are built at that age, some not. Clearly, with his height, it’s more likely that he will have some weight/muscle/strength to add. The mono he had will also have had an impact. The fact remains, even by NBA rookie standards, he is on the scrawny side, especially at 20 years of age.
Also, it’s not an especially useful metric to compare a high level NBA prospect with a bunch of keyboard warrior fans. When I talk of ‘lack of burst’ … it’s all relative.
Hadn’t thought about the comparison, but it’s a good one.
Can we all agree that it would be a disaster to start Miller?
As long as it is also agreed that getting all his minutes with Frankie Frenchie and the crew of misfit fringe NBA players he played with is equally disastrous
Perhaps moreso. It’s what I call bullshit on Cliff’s, “I play rookies” - playing them in terrible situations isn’t good for anyone.
Bingo.
I maintain this franchise is a disaster and I submit this coaching fiasco as item A into evidence
We have to stagger starters, so they play some with Miller in the regular season. Bring him on early for Hayward and let him play with LaMelo for the early part of his allocation, for example. You can’t trot out a lineup of Frankie or Theo, Bryce, Miller, Thor and Richards and expect Miller to thrive.
You can if you want to create a narrative that young guys aren’t ready for playing time early on.
preach
That would do it. I’d be stunned if Miller is hung out to dry like this, in the regular season.
History suggests otherwise
I know y’all are being tongue in cheek, kinda, but I know Cliff isn’t going to “sabotage” Miller leaving him hanging with bums at the one. (Now if you said Mitch is sabotaging our PG position year after year…)
Cliff watches all the film, has all the data, can spit them back at you off the top of his head, can identify everything that is wrong. The problem is, during games he’s like a baby born moth that sees a bright porch light for the first time, his brain freezes as he dives head first into the bug zapper.
I don’t know if he can analyze data in real time, or keep up with who’s doing what, who’s playing well with who, who needs a break, etc. He’s so married to the data on playing groups, that he only adjusts between games, never during the games. He may intend Miller to play with Melo for 10-15 minutes, but get enamored with the Hayward Thor PJ Nick group and forget the quarter is ending.
So true. Cliff’s primary weakness is his inability to adapt in game, in the moment.
And general offensive gameplans
And not destroying rookies
He’s the ideal number 2, not an ideal number 1. He needs an offensive minded guy next to him. Maybe an ex PG who sees the game that’s happening in the now and can make the necessary changes.
But he isn’t trash. Not as a man and not as a coach. He held that locker room together when a hell of a lot of coaches would not have been able to. He’s universally respected and liked by his players, but he still pushes them to be better. If not Cliff, then who???
I’m not gonna waste much more time energy or thought on Bridges and his situation. Feels like I should have the same attitude toward this team as a whole.
But I’ve been high on Brandon since day one and this presents a massive opportunity for him. I believe he’s up for the challenge. I hope he can seize the opportunity to excel and begin to establish something along with Melo that the city can be proud of for a change.
