The Brandon Miller Thread

Miller starting tonight!

I didn’t even have hair on my legs at 19

Oh I was always scrawny, I never lifted. I got awkwardly tall, quickly haha

I was an awkward and scrawny 6’0 going into the 8th grade. High school coaches watched a few of my 8th grade games. Definitely disappointed my high school basketball coaches when I didn’t grow any taller between 8th grade basketball season and a year later at team camp and high school try outs

I didn’t watch the second pre season game but watched all of the first.

You all echoed my thoughts above when I saw Cliff dump this ā€œrotationā€ on the floor with Miller. Woof. Hard to make any real judgement based on who was around him.

These aren’t necessarily criticisms or things I’m taking in, but just observations. It’s just one meaningless game, so these arent conclusions.

-I don’t love Brandon’s handles. He got stripped and turned the ball over several times. I’m not sure why people think a guy who hasn’t played SG will suddenly emerge as a SG in the NBA.
-however, he does seem to have a great flow and shoots the best on the move. Smooth release while on the move.
-didn’t really seem to be a threat to go north/south. Quick dribble ā€œdriveā€ always ended with that smooth pull-up shot or quickly getting rid of the ball after quickly realizing he has no where to go.
-to be a difference maker this year, he’s going to have to shoot threes around 38%. Or more.

Count me as shocked by anyone outside of Wemby or It’s Miller time!

Miller should come off the bench first half of the year. Gordon may surprise us and stay healthy this year and provide the production and leadership this young teams so badly needs! Gordon can still play and if his 3 ball starts falling, look out!

Oubre had limited guard skills, and until last year spent most of time at SF. Miller replaced Oubre or roster, replace Oubre in rotation. Not ideal…SG injured, criminals, and/or just suck again…expect to see Miller at SG

Well, right now Is better handler & passer than Oubre.
Should be to more offensively efficient, low bar Oubre was awful.
But right now Oubre is the more trash talking aggressive chucker.

People talk about Oubre like he was trash. He was a good player for us. I still believe he and Miller could have co-existed. Guarantee he will light us up for 30 this year.

He is as one dimensional as a scorer gets. I just didnt see what else he brought us.

Cody Martin could score 0 pts and still impact a win. If Oubre scores 0 pts you are going to lose lol.

I am just trying to out into perspectice the player that he is.

I get that, but people act as if a designated scorer isn’t valuable. You need guys who can score. That was his role. He doesn’t need to play 30 mins a night, but Oubre was ideal as a second unit guy who can come in and provide instant offense.

In an ideal world, if I needed a microwave scorer to play 15ish minutes a game for me, Oubre would actually be very high on my list. A league wide list too, that factors in things like salary/contract.

Paying say 5-8 million a year for a guy in Oubre that can occasionally go off and be an occasional fill in starter?

Hell yeah man.

Stop the count, time to crown "It's Miller Time!" rookie of the year over Scoot and Wemby

Best opening night goes to Miller.

Off the bench with 13, a few very nice passes, sick alley oop dunk and two huge threes late in the fourth quarter.

And he was a factor in his team winning.

Scoot struggled

So glad we didn’t take scoot or get stuck with Wemby. Scoot is a bust. It’s over.

glad to see Brandon knock down those threes tonight. He’ll need to do that as close to 40% as possible to be who we need him to be.

Scoot was 0-5 with no assist, 3 turnovers and -20 +/- in the first half. Looks like he settled in some, in the 2nd half. I’m Sure he’ll be fine but I said all along and will continue to say Miller is who we needed.

I liked what PJ said about him post game. He was good but he can do better and he expects more. I think PJ is low-key blossoming into a vocal leader that we’ve been seeking also.

I’m pretty sure the clippers absolutely roast us just about every time.

I liked the three to beat the buzzer and the oop from Melo. In that play, muller could’ve easily stood in the corner waiting for a pass to shoot, but he communicated well with Melo early in the play and help set that up.

I’m sure Brandon will settle in and get the jitters out, but he makes me nervous dribbling the ball.

I think all the top 5 rookies, or I guess top 6 if we include Chet now, are going to be really good pros. There’s multiple all-star appearances that should come through this group once they get settled in.

I think even if Scoot ends up a better player than Miller, I still feel that Melo + Miller will be better than Melo + Scoot, especially in terms of the ease of playing off each other rather than the take turns approach with 2 ball dominant guards. And I think it will bring more team success due to the better defensive capabilities and rotations.

And I will always feel extra defensive over Miller, especially as every online outlet and pundit goes crazy for every other rookie outburst, but stays nitpicking every Miller mistake or doesn’t acknowledge when he does well. It’s all Wemby, with secondary love to Chet and Scoot, the remainder going to the Thompson twins. Then they run out of time to only give a passing mention of Miller, probably about the lawsuit.

ESPN has 4 straight articles on Wemby on their NBA page, NBA.com features the 3 rookie debuts of Wemby, Chet, and Scoot, even though ours had a better start.

I do not recall seeing Miller play the SG slot at all last night. I missed the first quarter, but went back and watched the extended replay highlights. However, I do recall seeing in the 2nd quarter a Theo/Hayward/Miller/(Thor or PJ?)/Richards lineup. With this configuration, I saw Hayward handle the ball more up high, and have more touches, as Miller often slipped towards the corner three waiting a pass.

I don’t want to get into the weeds about positions, but in this configuration, it did not have Miller in that ball handler/offense facilitator role like an off guard will have opportunities for.

I know a lot of folks are clamoring about Miller eventually being the SG Charlotte has wanted, so I’ll just be keeping my eye on this as the season goes on. I personally don’t see it, but I’m interested to watch and find out.

They ran a line up of Terry, Miller, Hayward, Thor, and Williams in both the early 3rd and 1st. I didn’t pay attention where Hayward and Miller lined up offensively but assume Miller was guarding the opposing 2.
