just want to reiterate, there is no information behind that suggestion. my point was that the headlines seem to be reading “charlotte taking offers to move down”, i was trying to suggest it is more like “charlotte’s demands for a trade down”. i firmly believe that the league knows that top 11 or 12 is way more valuable than below 14.
again, don’t spend time on those trades as in they are even a fake rumor.
I feel like we are going to be winners tonight. I’m not sure how, but I feel like it. I had a similar feeling last year and lost my mind (in a good way) when GS selected Wiseman.
Let’s continue on this upwards trajectory of relevance in the NBA! So pumped for today.
To me, guys like Franz and Moses are better fits for our needs than Alperen. The key there for me is that they are all in the same tier. And again, if we plan to move PJ particularly, my priorities completely change there.
That isn’t how it works in front offices by all accounts. There’s always some accounting of need. To the degree it affects your picks is a different thing. That’s where the tiers that most draft folks speak in comes from. Now who is in our (CLT) tier 2 vs 3 vs 4 is entirely behind the scenes. But within a given tier, fit is the determinant.
Ah, to be a Hornets fan. Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. Maybe something good will happen again on draft night. Could we possibly make it two years in a row of something good happening??
So basically this would be 11 for Turner from us. While it’s always kind of a bummer to spend so much time learning about these prospects only to end up with none of them, it would be hard to complain if we made that move.
I’m ambivalent about Turner. There’s no one in our range at 11 I would feel devastated if we passed on to add Turner. Unless someone unexpectedly slips to 11
Interestingly enough, Turner was selected 11th overall. Let’s look at other recent 11th overall picks.
2012: Meyers Leonard
2013: Michael Carter Williams
2014: Doug McDermott
2015: Myles Turner
2016: Sabonis
2017: Malik Monk
2018: Shai Gilgeous Alexander
2019: Cameron Johnson
2020: Devin Vassell
Turner is comfortably the third best player on this list. If you get a player of his caliber at 11th overall you’ve done a solid job for sure.
