The Hornets are Actually Playing Today

Terry Mother Plucking Rozier!

The most improbable win in Hornets history. All kinds of Hornets laws were overcome tonight. Good lord and thank you Draymond Green.

Thank you Terry, this game was awful to watch but maybe I’ll go back and watch that shot a few times over the next few years

Fun coincidence that for all my transmission staying in gear (around PJ) and Terry was clutch as hell throughout.

Nice to get a win in before Utah too

Just want to add it was PJ with the heads up timeout call just as GH gets possession that sets us up for victory.

How great is this photo?

Was wondering too how GH called a timeout but on the replay it was clear that it was Washington who called it albeit the refs gave it a bit late.

BUT TERRY ROZIER. That man is an assassin :triumph::triumph:

Hard to believe we won the Kemba / Rozier swap; but we really did. Damn

And to think of the stick the FO got at the time. If he’d hit this form a few weeks earlier he’d have put himself in the all-star conversation.

Not sticking the boot into PJ, did ok considering it was his first game back after a couple of weeks off. My main gripe - and it’s looked like this all season, it feels like he’s coasting, he’s a well rounded player from both a skills and size perspective but isn’t working hard enough out there and is not being anywhere near physical enough on both ends, it’s frustrating.

Funny that we’re so often on the wrong side of things like this but I don’t actually think the calls were wrong. Green could have been called for a foul on Gordon initially but PJ is clearly calling time when Hayward has the ball. Then the ā€œcarryā€ isn’t a carry at all. The other angle shows the Ball’s direction change is because it goes off his knee, not redirected by hand.

Either way, the real fall apart on GSW was letting us get to 2 when they had us down double digits with like 4 mins to go.

Paschall could have walked around PJ last night every time they got in a 1on1 situation, Paschall made PJ look like a swinging door

Incredible win last night. This team never fails to entertain. Terry is on an insane level right now.

Re: PJ, I think he set the bar unrealistically high for himself in his debut last year. But think back to what was being said about him coming into the draft. Safe pick, solid high floor, low ceiling player. That’s exactly what he’s been. Let’s pretend he didn’t go for 27 in his first game and probably no one’s disappointed. We just need to recalibrate our expectations of him ever being much more than that.

I don’t think anyone expected him to breakout into a star, but hoped for some steady progression this year.

As GoBobcats said though he was a revolving door last night, if he’s not going to show up on D and start playing with some aggression I don’t think his floor is that high.

It probably doesn’t help that my favourite players are those like Crash who used to leave it all out on the floor!

But the lack of effort and intensity is alarming, and has nothing to do with expectations/ceiling/floors.

I don’t have room for a guy like that that feels entitled to be where he is, and I swear that is the situation with Washington.

He may be one of those guys that takes his foot off the gas when he feels like he made it.

One thing is for sure, the Hornets will not go far with PJ playing big minutes unless he starts to exert effort on both ends. Defensively and rebounding-wise, he has regressed this season.

I guess I just haven’t seen that egregious lack of effort you guys are talking about, nor is his drop off from last year as significant as I think some are making it out to be. Not saying you don’t see what you see, but we can all come away with a different take on what we’re watching. I will say though, that if Borrego had that same negative take on his effort, I highly doubt he’d continue to reward that by keeping PJ in the starting line up.

Digging a little deeper, he’s never been a great rebounder for a post player, but his rebounding numbers are actually better this year compared to last, as are blocks and assists, all despite playing less minutes. Rebounding and blocks in particular are hustle stats which to me, are indicative of his effort since he’s actually improved in those areas. More than anything, he just hasn’t shot the ball as well this year, but his role within our offense is also different given Hayward’s presence.

PJ has a low key demeanor and he plays with a smile on his face. That can sometimes cause people to perceive that he doesn’t care and isn’t taking things seriously. I don’t necessarily think that’s the case. To me, I think he’s just a good, but not great player who doesn’t necessary excel at anything, and that can sometimes be frustrating when you really want him to.

Agree with this take completely. In terms of demeanor, I think Washington is definitely more like GH, in that they make their contributions without a lot of outward signs of aggression like a lot of guys like to do. Paschall is a good comparison. It seemed like he was eating Washington’s lunch because of the few times he got to the basket, but Washington played a much more effecient game and only scored 1 less point.

I think we’ll see more aggression from Washington the more comfortable he gets with everyone else’s space. Just about any time he’s on the floor, there are three other guys ahead of him in the scoring order who want to drive and kick and find an open shooter. I think once he gets more comfortable and the lineups become more consistent, I think he’ll look for his shot more and be more aggressive.

I still think he’s finding his way in a very dynamic offense.
